Experience
Ian Thurlbeck qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1998. Ian’s interest in property began in 1987 upon leaving school to work in a regionally based surveyors practice in Darlington.

Since then Ian has remained in the North East gaining a considerably wide range of experience working as a surveyor with Newcastle based International Property Consultants, Local Authorities, National Retailer and most recently as Director at a National Property Consultancy.

In 2010 Ian was joined by Andrew Carphin who qualified as a Member of RICS in 2008. Andrew graduated from Northumbria University with a Degree in Estate Management in 2004. With a background working with one of the leading surveying practices in the North East Andrew has the benefit of experience in the Retail, Industrial, Office and Development markets.

Expertise
When originally formed in 2007 the business was based on Ian’s experience in two vital areas: region based and retail based. Having been fortunate enough to gain experience in such a diverse number of surveying roles Ian has always concentrated on retail property based in the North East of England.

Ian’s wide range of experience also means he is familiar with all forms of retail property in the region from local District Centres and Suburban Parades through to Prime Shopping Centres and Retail Parks. The common thread is North East Retail.

Andrew’s more diverse experience including the knowledge and experience he has gained from working in the Industrial and Office markets means Thurlbeck & Co is able to offer a wider range of dedicated services to a broader audience.
